Write For Us

Write for Us at Independent Book Review

We are looking for a few dedicated individuals to review small press or independent books of their choice, interview authors, and write original guest posts. Continue reading for more information on each position.

Become an IBR Book Reviewer

On average, we receive about two books a week. We also pitch publishers regularly to publish reviews of books that have piqued our interest. Since we want to increase publicity for as many authors as we can, we are looking to expand our team.

While this is currently an unpaid position, we are hoping to pay our regular contributors in the future. For now, we offer our reviewers free books and the opportunity to get your words in front of as many readers as possible. Read a book review example here.

Our reviewers gain access to an extensive list of free books. If you have a book that you would like to review that has not been submitted to us, please include the title and author name in the comment section.

Please include what type of involvement you are looking for (one-time, short-term, long-term, etc.) in the contact box below. We will be in touch within 48 hours to ask for a writing sample and biography.

Become a Literary Magazine Reviewer

We want to review issues of literary magazines before they are available to the general reading public. As a reviewer, we ask that you do not have any affiliations with the literary magazines you plan to review.

You can apply to publish only one review if you’d like, or you could be our resident literary magazine reviewer. We would love to turn this into a regular column.

Please include what type of involvement you are looking for (one-time, short-term, long-term, etc.) in the contact box below. We will be in touch within 48 hours to ask for a writing sample and biography.

Publish a Guest Post

At Independent Book Review, we strive to appeal to two audiences: readers and writers. Upon publication, we will publish a short biography and author photograph to help build your writing portfolio.

Concerning the types of posts we publish, please see “10 Awesome Indie Presses You Should Know About” and “3 Tips for Writing Realistic Dialogue—From Jane Austen.”

We would love to consider articles in the following categories:

  • Listicles of great small press and self-published books/authors
  • Writing, publishing, and book marketing tips
  • Literary magazine and book publisher features
  • Agents and publishers accepting submissions
  • More!

If you’ve got an idea for a guest post not mentioned above, please pitch it in the contact box below. We will be in touch within 48 hours after pitch submission to inquire about plans, writing samples, and bios.

Interview an Author

We would love to increase the amount of interviews we do here. We have a long list of authors that we would love to reach out to, but if you have recommendations, we would like to hear those too.

The interviewer is responsible for reading the book they are promoting as well as coming up with unique and entertaining questions. No prior experience is required, but we will need to see a relevant writing sample that illustrates your ability to read closely and communicate clearly. Please see an example of an IBR author interview here.
